If you eat foie gras even after knowing how it is produced, you are not my friend.

It's pure animal cruelty. No surprise that Chinese pick it up. As a culture, they don't seem to care about animal welfare at all.

Versus industrially-produced pork and chicken? I’ll hear you if you establish a consistent ethical line. But the animus against foie seems closer to “it’s weird” than “it’s evil.”

You might be pleased to learn there is free feeding foie gras too, it just cant be marketed under the name.

One of the biggest obstacles to the cruelty-free alternative is the law. The European Union strictly defines "foie gras" by minimum liver weights of 300g for ducks or 400g for geese. Because natural, voluntary feeding rarely produces livers that heavy, farmers using ethical methods are often legally prohibited from marketing their product as "foie gras"

It's also a part of historical tradition, part of being a European. And, all meat production is cruelty. That's life.
