Maybe if you weren't using expensive anti-bot solutions people wouldn't use expensive bots.

That’s a great theory, unfortunately it’s defeated by the fact that I didn’t need to use anti-bot solutions until I was charged for 38,000x my normal ingress traffic in a single month by bot traffic.
How much traffic was that?
It used to be around 12GB per month of egress for just under 400 various websites. Most of these people get a couple of legitimate users per month, some are small forums and hobbyist blogs.

If my colo host hadn't felt bad for me, I'd have had to choose between turning my cabinet off or selling my car the first month it happened.
