That's because it was illegal for lawyers to advertise their services until 1976. See Bates v. State Bar of Arizona:

I'd have thought limited-liability partnerships (and with it, the mega shops) did more damage.

Yes ultimately it's advertising the leads heavily to the enshifification of any industry.
