Curious at the meta-level of the subject. What kind of discussion is there about the expressiveness of a language. In particular as it compares to the language’s complexity. (Ie. 26 letters, six vowels, gets you the whole show in English—that sort of thing).

In Japanese, you can get some visual puns depending on the writing system employed. That's harder to do in alphabetic language. The use of italics, bold, and underline font styles also extend the Latin alphabet.
