Lesson learned: California, and all the universities within, are liberal on the surface, but deeply right-wing in the halls of power. Once you understand this, the whole state and its lack of progress on progressive issues makes sense.

There's more to power than political position. This is why Elon Musk and George Soros, both of whom have zero political office as of right now, are still considered the shadowy bogeymen by the right/left. If you're willing to accept that these figures have some power at the national level, wouldn't that also apply to the centi-millionaires living in San Francisco and LA?
