If anyone is still reading... I think because AI fundamentally changes what a computer is, and how we interact with the computer. A non-AI computer appeals to a certain kind of person, specifically someone who works alone. It behaves a certain way. It's predictable (to the kind of person who likes it.) AI is a completely different kind of computer. It's social, so for someone who works alone, the whole rules change. Now you're interacting with a thing that's more like working with a person. --- Personally, I don't think it needs to be an either-or situation. I also think the window to "get with the program" is going to narrow over the next decade or so, and for those of us who can't adapt, we need to make sure we plan to retire or change careers. |
