This came about after I thought that top songs today are definitely worse than in the 90s, so I tried to automate an analysis of the lyrics from all top 10 billboard songs yearly from the last 7 decades. And realized I had rose tinted glasses all along. Whatever was popular to reach the top 10 for the year wasn t specifically complex and special. It`s mostly pop, somewhat generic, mostly. But the analyses were pretty good and reading it I was feeling curious to listen to most songs with new contexts.

So, then I did an analysis run only for Arctic Monkeys' discography, which I know really well, and I caught myself reading a lot the albums summary, songs, and how each album veered course thematically and how it relates to the band's growth at the time, etc. Then I added more bands I`m interested in and came out pretty impressed with the writing. Was expecting slopy generic style, but it was (mostly) a deep and thoughtful text, making me look from a different angle some artists that I overlooked.

https://knowyourband.com/about explains a bit how it is done. Each new band costs a bit in API, I'l leave it in Github as well so anyone can use their api keys
