Folded into the base is a mechanical backup key, a flat metal blade in a hinged housing. It reads warmer than everything else in the scan. It exists for the moment the battery dies or the RF link fails. Every BYD keyless entry system includes this fallback.

It's simple things like this which incumbent manufacturers need to avoid losing sight of.

Nearly every manufacturer does this though? It's often simply done in such a sleek way that customers don't even know it's there.
My 2019 Ford has this as well, this is not novel.
My 2014 Fiesta did too.

Huh? What keyless car doesn’t have this (except Tesla, but they’re an odd one, and I guess not an incumbent manufacturer…)
The Volvo EX30/EX90 and Polestars 3/4/5 don't have a backup physical key or even buttons on the remote to force an unlock. That works exactly how you'd expect :)
