In the late 90s and early 2000s, he was Hitler to the tech community. Slashdot even had a Borg image with his face on it.

He somehow made his image better, when he publicly supported liberal causes like stopping climate change.

People don't change, and it was so obvious he still a scummy asshole.

In my view, these were less about liberal causes and more about general humanitarian efforts, such as vaccinations, education and fighting world hunger—things that were generally considered good regardless of political affiliation, before the GOP was completely taken over by a madman.
