Interesting article.

When I was young, the household would receive a bunch of physical catalogs from shops in or near my hometown. We would all sit around the coffee table going through them and looking for good deals.

If all these catalogs had a build-in tracker so that the sender could magically measure how long the catalog was in the mailbox, if it was read before ending up in the trash, how many people in the household saw the catalog, how many pages were seen and so on... we would all have freaked out and burned the catalogs up at once!

But now that kind of surveillance is just normal. Sad.
