I thought it was interesting that Saudi Arabia was opposed to granting certain gTLDs on the grounds that they would likely be used to host content which their culture considers offensive. To me, it seems like if that government could censor all* homosexuality and "substances detrimental to public order and morals" by blocking .gay and .wine, then that would be in its interest.
