I lived in Japan from 2011-2016 and eventually needed to move away because my allergies were so bad. Many other foreigners would say things like "I never had allergies before I came to Japan".

Unfortunately, I heard that the government previously investigated taking action but were lobbied against doing so by pharmaceutical companies that earn revenue from allergy medications.
