It feels like massive change to the tech industry (programming, data science etc.) is inevitable with LLMs. Articles like this remind me of the Luddites burning the mills and smashing the stocking frames - sure, they were able to cause some damage to the local industrialists but in the end resistance was futile. FWIW, I strongly suspect I'll get laid off in the next five years due to the combination of LLMs and the poor economic outlook. So I'm not really optimistic about the changes, but I don't think we can just pretend we can put the genie back in the bottle and go back to 2021. |

I recently published an article about the Luddites. If you look at their actual demands, they were not anti-tech. They were labor activists. Life got much, much worse for most people in the industrial revolution until the laws they advocated were finally implemented.
