The photography of the bird eyes in the article is stunning especially the 3x3 grid.

Yeah, they help remind me that eyes are strange biological sensors rather than the cartoonish familiar things I see daily. Kind of like when you take acid and realize how weird you look. Or your cat’s basically a mouth with legs.

I was always amazed at the idea of a Radar, how it can detect objects at large distances by using reflected EM radiation, then I remember that eyes are just a RADAR and I am 10x amazed by the fact....

Someone on the Infinite Monkey Cage (I think) described almost all animals as just a tube - stuff goes in one end, different stuff comes out the other end.

Wait till you see cephalopod eyes!
IIRC cephalopods branched off very early in the evolutionary chain. They are almost like aliens.
