Personally, I hate these dashes, and it has nothing to do with LLMs.

If you insist on using this hyphen look-alike punctuation, at least use it correctly: with spaces around it.

Otherwise, it's a hyphen. Whatever a "purpose— one" is?

Written english is a space delimited language. The hyphen makes multiple words into one pseudo-word.

Wherever you're using a dash, you should just use a comma, or maybe a semicolon.

Or, maybe you're minimememaxxing?

Emdash separates, hyphen concatonates, endash is the one that seems superfluous.

Emdash is actually what people mean a lot of the time when they use parenthesis.

If it's supposed to separate, then it should be surrounded with spaces...

Also, a comma is a pause — and what a wonderful thing — whilst an emdash is a tangent.
