They were actually called Kings Quest and Leisure Suit Larry. There was also Police Quest and Space Quest. Sierra Online really had some of the canonical adventure game series.

Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of Lounge Lizards, if we're to be pedantic, with episode subtitles like Love for Sail :)

And Hero's Quest, later known as Quest for Glory. This was arguably more fun because it added RPG traits.
