HN is _extremely_ hype-prone. See discussions of NFTs changing the world a few years ago. You can't go on what gets upvoted on HN, because, with the benefit of hindsight, what gets upvoted on HN is usually complete nonsense. Bitcoin, NFTs, metaverses, all were declared world changing by HN, then quietly forgotten about.

(This is not to say that LLMs certainly face the same fate, and indeed I'm fairly sure they're not as useless as NFTs, but "HN is ridiculously excited about something" is not really good evidence for anything.)
