The Yudkowsky school has produced two kinds of outcomes. The first is people who conclude that they should keep doing exactly what they are already doing: blogging and posting on forums. The second is people who conclude that they should create a violent cult and start murdering people.

The first outcome is meaningless. A belief system that doesn't actually change your behavior is just window dressing. The second outcome is both ineffective and harmful to society.

This stuff also takes air out of the actually meaningful discussions of the ways that AI will harm people via things like increased concentration of power or capital large scale job loss.
