Literally two paragraphs before your quoted text:

Seems like they arn't saying you cannot get it, but that you are LESS LIKELY to spread it. Which, if Covid was spread via coughing/sneezing, and the vaccine reduces those symptoms, would be a logical next step. She also hedged multiple times, stating that this is just what the initial data is saying, and not a full-throated promise.

You’re referencing an unnamed CDC spokesperson trying to do damage control after the fact when the head of the CDC made the statement I quoted verbatim. The above comment I replied to with this quote said “I don't remember ever hearing from a reputable source that the vaccine would be 100% effective.” I provided an exact quote from the head of the CDC making that claim.

Furthermore, Biden made the same types of claims in town hall addresses to voters on more than one occasion.

The premise of this thread is the back and forth mixed messaging from medical as well as government leaders. That’s what has caused an uptick in lack of trust in institutions - especially medical - from a lot of people.

I don't think anything that Walensky said was incorrect. She just said that their studies thus far showed very low Covid infection rates and very low rates of virus detection in vaccinated people. In what way was what she said incorrect? Her starting the quote with "Our data from the CDC today suggests" indicates she is only commenting on what the data they have shows, and not making any promises or 100% guaranteed statements.

Then, someone under the same organization, a spokesperson whose job it is to speak about these things, further clarified that the statement was broad, but they never said it was incorrect or was not supported by the study cited by Walensky. This seems to be things working as intended, and anti-vaxx people then attempted to misconstrue this quote as a promise or guarantee.
