If you have a storage server, its easy to exceed 2.5 or even 5 gigabit with SATA spinning disks if they're in an array. 10 gig is fast enough to work with network storage like it's local: do your work, store your steam library, edit videos, etc, but store it all somewhere else and share it with multiple computers.
