Isn't it a hub for human trafficking, in particular for pornography and other exploitation/abuse? I have no data on this, only anecdotal evidence from people who have done social work there. If true, it's perhaps less surprising to see also related technology originating from there as well. |

As for exploitation/abuse - sadly yes, this place is full of prostitutes and they look like they aren't doing it willingly :/ this is truly a dark side of this place.
But it has nothing to do with porn business. That is a high tech niche, that is a major source of employment and GDP (at one point, PornHub parent company was the biggest corporate taxpayer in Cyprus), and of course none of the actual women are here. Porn companies are held in high regard because they make up probably the most ethical niche among foreign owned, high value businesses.
