In my personal experience of growing plants from seeds, I have always noticed large growth spurts after rain compared to watering from the tap. The assumption was just that rain water is better for plants than filtered/treated tap water. It would be interesting to learn that plants are programmed to have a more active period of growth as a response to rain to go beyond the difference of rain vs tap qualities.

I'm not a scientist to know what tests can be done further, but I would find the results interesting either way
