As somebody in software, I find my fellow tech folks have the opposite bias.

There is no reason to believe superintelligent AI is a possibility. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, and so far we haven't gotten any.

The burden of proof is on the side making the grand prophecies.

The problem here, on both sides is one of definitions. Intelligence is a big wibbly wobbly mishmash of different things and not all of them are required in any entity that is considered intelligent. Of course this leads to a lot of issues between differing groups having wildly different definitions for intelligence.

So this leads them/you into another problem. Are you saying that super intelligence isn't possible in how they define it, or how you define it.
