Short work hours have been a longtime prediction of the effects of automation. Nearly 100 years ago, Keynes predicted we'd be working 15-hour weeks.

Instead of working a third as much, people would rather have three times the amenities. In 1930, the average household had four people living in 1,100 sq feet. Now it's twice the square footage, for three people, who also have 24 sq ft of offsite self storage, despite having multiple garage spaces.
