Yep, it's Global North, class, and privilege bias. Unconscious to conscious racism that pervades the Global North as superior and more meaningful than the suffering of others locally or in distant lands because they're not as rich or don't look like them. History and the modern day are replete examples: African slaves in the Americas, American Indians, (Monroe Doctrine), Armenia, Vietnam, Bosnia, Rwanda, East Timor, Sudan, Darfur, Afghanistan, Iraq, Uygurs, Rohingya, many more ... and then comes Ukraine and "Oh, no, not pale Europeans" solidarity lasted for a couple of years with not as much support as 2022. OTOH, while the Shoah (Holocaust) is a crucial case study in history and human nature that hints at systematic repression and humiliation suffered by Jews and similar groups in various forms for 2300+ years, it was perverted by some into exceptionalism justification for neocolonial ethno-religio-nationalist supremacy in the realm of Kahanism and its allied supporters in government. |
