Having ZFS baked into the installer and fully supported by the project is a huge motivator for using FreeBSD.

I know that Linux distros can accommodate ZFS, but it's a fair-weather situation due to licensing and most distros' preference for BTRFS.

Licensing is totally irrelevant for the end user. It just means you can't distribute the fully configured system.
