Go watch the JCS episode with the Chris Watts interrogation including his polygraph, you’ll see it’s actually extremely effective. As a scientific tool to literally detect lies it’s completely bunk, but all the interrogator has to say is “the machine said you weren’t 100% truthful” and humans will 9 times out of 10 start blabbing.
