AI is taking devs' jobs. Yes, **BUT
1 points by olivdums 131 days ago
I'm a Senior software engineer for 7 years now, I've worked in lots of companies from early stage to $5bn ones, I've built lots of side projects and I've even been a marketing consultant for a huge company in another life,

AI is taking devs' jobs. Say what ever you want about that, look behind you, 2 years ago, what % of your code was AI generated? How much today?

AI does replaces our job, BUT:

It's true that we will need less people in charge of coding Saas currently called as "devs",

50% of the devs' job is now fine tuning implementations plans, 50% review PRs.

BUT, I think that business jobs are becoming more and more technicals,

I see a future where Sales & Marketing departments will all use tools like Cursor / Claude code / MCPs / Write implementation docs etc.

Actually, I see a world were the people you're calling "devs" today will do the business jobs tomorrow.

It's not tech vs business people anymore,

Most of the devs who are not able to understand the business aspect might lose their jobs.

Most of the business people who do not understand coding / tech might lose their jobs.

Okay, but currently people are really losing jobs over economic uncertainty due to policies, and tariffs increasing the cost of doing business. The AI reason for job cuts is given to placate shareholders, putting a positive spin on job cuts due to struggling bottom lines instead of suffering from job cuts news.

In other words, there will be no more devs so everyone should retrain as, effectively, MBAs and managers?

That's very bad news if you enjoy being a dev and/or dislike being a businessperson or manager.
