I think Windows 11 in particular is a confluence of two other problems with respect to competition: 1. Subscriptions instead of discrete paid versions removes the incentive to put out a good product. In the past, if the new version was bad it was a direct financial hit. But now there's no direct financial feedback loop, as long as it's not so terrible that you leave the subscription entirely 2. I think Windows 11 is the first time there's no other version of Windows still in support you can use to "ride it out" |
