I tried vscode and it just seemed like a crippled version of jetbrains, I don’t get it.

If you compare with the free versions of Jetbrains software, to the extent they even exist at all, there is a lot more than one can do in VSCode that one cannot do in free Jetbrains. Granted, the paid annual licensed version of Jetbrains may have more features. Extensions in VSCode make up for the rest. VSCode costs nothing and I can have ten instances of it without even having to think about licensing.
