Well, actually in the UK the police can ask for your name and address. And if they think you are not giving them the correct name and address (or you refuse to identify yourself), they can arrest you until such time as you can prove your ID. It is the same if the police stop you for a driving offence. You are required to produce (a) Driving license (b) Insurance (c) MOT. Insurance and MOT can be verified electronically these days. But if you cannot produce your driving license at the scene then you will be required to present at a police station within seven days. |
