You can run quite powerful models at home on a maxed out Mac Studio. The difference between those and SoTA is more like 2x.

just had a quick look, but at this price, I could have Claude pro for 62 years...

Yes but you don't have the same level of privacy, agency, and control with Claude.

I wouldn't pay for it for myself but I can see employers considering it.
