AIUI, the AI-based translation models are based on the same transformer-oriented neural nets that LLMs are based on, just not quite writ as large. In other words, it's not entirely inaccurate to call these models LLMs. While there's a lot of other AI technologies that aren't LLMs, automatic translation is probably the closest technology phylogenitically speaking. |
