Aside: Why do we use the terms "mutable" and "immutable" to describe those concepts? I feel they are needlessly hard to say and too easily confused when reading and writing. I say "read-write" or "writable" and "writability" for "mutable" and "mutability", and "read-only" and "read-only-ness" for "immutable" and "immutability". Typically, I make exceptions only when the language has multiple similar immutability-like concepts for which the precise terms are the only real option to avoid confusion. |
