How can you compare reading Slashdot at +5 to reading the mostly unfiltered comments here? I think it's also telling that you only feel the desire to participate in discussion (post) here. While I'd agree that some of the /. +5 comments can be worth reading, the populism, trolling, and general lack of real-world experience of other posters made participating in the discussions pointless and even counter-productive. |

Because Slashdot actually provides the facilities to do so. If I could browse +5 HN comments then believe me I would.
