When we get local models for everything, I think AI could kill the internet and big tech.

In the fullness of time, we'll be able to generate everything locally. When that happens, why would we need middlemen?

Llama, Stable Diffusion, and Wan Video are a glimpse of what's to come with local AI. It'll get faster and higher quality.

At bare minimum, local agents will one day act like a filter in front of the internet and kill all the ads and bad content like hyper advanced ad blockers. No more rage bait. No more negativity. We'll be able to use AI to scrape the bullshit off the internet before it hits our eyeballs.

While there are people who want "no rage bait" the truth is that rage bait is red meat that people crave, otherwise they would not be interacting with it so strongly. A completely homogenized internet is fundamentally boring and would not drive eyeballs, that's why everyone doesn't just read wikipedia all day.

The Llama derivatives suck. The small and medium Qwen 2.5 derivatives do too. They have very little information compressed in them and they are very unreliable.

As far as I can tell, the big SaaS models also suck and have done so for quite a long time by now. They do some autocomplete stuff and destroy people's minds.

I'll give this business that it can do machine translation cheaply, but it's not good and likely never will be.

It is really wild to think; we’re in this universe where ad companies are these massive all-consuming things. 30 years ago, ads were just a thing actual stuff-producing companies did to try and convince you to buy a stuff. Rather than the ad being the whole point.

It could be nice to go back to that. Hopefully they’ll collapse faster than they grew though.

You will be able to do this kind of filtering only on systems where you'll be allowed to run arbitrary code. This capability will be exclusive from running mainstream apps, because of device attestation.

That would be the dream, it has been stated by many AI leaders that AI is the key to UBI, democratising that capability will prevent specific monopolies having a stranglehold on our future.
