I think we're overlooking the fact that this person was cleaning his shotgun while it was loaded. I hope this guy gets better and that he's learned a lesson from this. If you're going to do anything with your gun that doesn't involve shooting it, make sure it isn't loaded.

If we give the benefit of the doubt we could suppose he had finished cleaning it and then loaded it. But still a bad decision to leave a loaded gun lying on the bed.
