I have a hard time believing that you can build a truly democratic culture without a level of shared trust and values. In the sense of it being “rule of the people” rather than rule of the elite, monarchy, etc. In a properly functioning democracy, I think you’d want leaders to want to be a part of the political process. The more hostile and demanding that becomes, the less likely you’ll get those people in positions of power. |
