OpenAI is steering significant amounts of traffic away from Google and ChatGPT is a fairly common name that extends beyond awareness of the company (or even what the word it means specifically).

Not nearly on the level of "Kleenex" or "Google" as a term, but impressive given that other companies have spent decades trying to make a similar dent.

So what though? At best they will stuff it with ads like Google has done and become what is basically Bing w/ Copilot. That isn't going to pay back the $500 billion or however much they're trying to raise.
it means I highly doubt it's the "beginning of the end" as postulated... unless it's a very very long end

as another example: tesla has strung along a known overvaluation for a long time now and there's no end in sight despite a number of blunders
