According to Wikipedia (I know, not the most reliable source) a Kōan is a story, dialogue, question, or statement, which is used in Zen-practice to provoke the "great doubt", and test a student's progress in Zen practice. The main themes in this particular article are that Vi is not a silver bullet, that even using a great tool you can do a lousy lob and that tools are just tools.
