While I agree with the sentiment, technically you can always fill in the username password via the password manager now (at least on iOS).

Some people don’t use the iOS password manager to accommodate a diverse tech ecosystem. As such,

Oh my bad. I was convinced it worked with any password manager, but I verified and it does indeed works only with the iOS password manager.
