That would be ideal, but how do you define advertising? It could be a sign spray-painted with "good stuff only here".

You don't have to ban ads outright. A better solution would be to make life easier for ad blockers. Banning technical anti-measures and legal attacks against ad blockers would be a nice start. Then users would be able to choose ad blockers that best fit their needs.
