What happens when the money goes away and they realize they've been duped into joining a cult?

They won’t realize, and they will do what they are doing now already: Insist on being absolutely right anyway. The AI told them so!

They just move over to the next things. A lot of the current crop of AI grifters were NFT and shitcoin grifters before that.
