Unfortunately not that useful - we could do that now by taking a very small (e.g. 2mm) punch biopsy, and if it shows melanoma obviously that is helpful and the rest of the lesion needs to be removed. The issue is that a negative result doesn't exclude melanoma elsewhere in the lesion. I have been working with a startup to try and develop a non-invasive molecular test for melanoma so hopefully this will be possible in the future. |
