Because you didn't read it. It's not intended to be a dating website from 1999. It's attempting to imitate how a lot of personal ads in 1999 worked. Small little ads in newspapers or dedicated newsletters that were for personals. So perhaps you don't remember 1999 or you have forgotten what paper was like.

Because they may not have asked specifically for net worth but when you had a couple of lines to put down something that interested you that was generally in there.
