However, the video of Wang's 2016 trial and the verdict had been publicly available online for years[2]. In the 1980s and 1990s, Australian agents bugged the Chinese embassy on behalf of the United States, an incident reported by the ABC in 1995[3]. Photos of the bugs in the embassy building were widely circulated online[4].
