Because those projects are mature and have a very high bar for contributions, so aren't a good fit for AI?

Opening a PR on Linux is very different from opening a PR on a company's non-critical-path CRUD service.

I suspect the vast majority of day to day software development is new features and maintenance on large projects, rather than greenfield development.
