I think it is more about people being exposed to Windows and Macintoshes. If my non-technical parents had Ubuntu at their jobs and their computer were shipped with it, do you think they would even dream about searching for a new OS to learn?

The same argument works for any of those systems.. not just linux.

The reality is many people try many systems and settle on one they like.
