The point of the article is that BSD & Co have better survival characteristics, eventually attracting more developers, producing higher-quality software, and making the users switch to that. In the long run, even from the user's perspective, GPL & Co is only for enthusiasts who don't prioritise the actual quality of the software that they use. As a user, I value my freedom, but BSD & Co gives me enough freedom. The article assumes that it's the best tradeoff for most users, and I agree with that |
