Ask HN: Would you use a self-hosted uptime monitor with a public status page?

I’m thinking of building an open-source alternative to Better Stack and StatusPage. It would let you monitor website or API uptime, receive alerts (via email, Slack, Discord, or webhooks), and display a branded public status page. The goal is to offer something:
- Easy to self-host with Docker
- Lightweight and developer-friendly
- Privacy-focused with no data collection
- Free to use, with optional paid hosting and support I’m still validating the idea and would love your input. Would you use a tool like this?
What features matter most to you in an uptime monitor? Would you rather self-host or use a managed version? Would you pay for hosted monitoring if it’s open source and cheaper than existing options? Happy to hear any thoughts, feedback, or similar tools you rely on. Thanks! |
